Most have excellent ornamental trunks, generally with attractive mottled, flaking bark and elegant branching.
Autumn colour varies, but is often a striking red-orange .
Most prefer heavy soils, but all tend to be tolerant of a range of conditions - especially hybrid cultivars, which are especially mildew-resistant.
